Elk Grove Well-Life Center Supports Mental Wellness Month

Research has shown that 1 in 7 people have an addiction…

ELK GROVE, Ca., According to a five-year national study on addiction and treatment, the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA Columbia discovered, 40 million Americans ages 12 and older—or more than 1 in 7 people—have addiction involving nicotine, alcohol or other drugs. This is more than the number of Americans with heart conditions (27 million), diabetes (26 million) or cancer (19 million).

In honor of Mental Wellness Month, The Authenticity Well-Life Center (AWLC), nestled in Old Town Elk Grove, will be hosting a wellness networking mixer.  Last month, the AWLC opened their doors to help individuals and families in the greater Sacramento area to provide integrated health solutions for wellness.  The AWLC is dedicated to the wellbeing of individuals and families through client and family-centered counseling. The founding team includes 26-year veteran in the chemical dependency and counseling field, Dr. Vannessa Brown-Lindsey, and Kerri Herndon, a certified Life Coaching and Counselor.  Together they have organically created a unique approach to support individuals and families suffering from the effects of addictive disorders.

For family and friends of drug or alcohol addicted individuals, addressing the addiction is one of the most difficult aspects of helping the addicted person seek treatment. The AWLC offers discreet solutions for individuals and families through their multifaceted approach which includes treatment for the mind, body, spirit, and soul.

As Founder and Chief Executive Officer for Another Choice, Another Chance, a 26 year old grassroots organization that specializes in chemical dependency Counseling and dual-diagnosis treatment for youth and families, Dr. Brown-Lindsey’s expertise is highly sought after. A graduate of the Breining Institute’s College of Advanced Studies for Addictive Disorders, Dr. Brown-Lindsey is a Professor of Addictions at the Breining Institute, and has written and developed numerous proposals, resulting in more than $15 million in total funding awards from various state and local agencies, public and private endowments, private foundations and individual donors.

Kerri Herndon’s community outreach efforts were first inaugurated through Empowering Relationships, Inc. (ERI) which she founded in 2006.  Successfully creating outreach programs and conferences for girls ages 8-18 over the past seven years, and providing coaching through a private practice, her mission of empowerment has expanded to include working with women and their families suffering from addictive disorders.

The AWLC invites health and wellness professionals, as well as the surrounding community to network and gain additional insight on how we can all work together in support of mental wellness in our area.  The night of networking to promote wellness in our community will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Authenticity Well-Life Center (located in the Stafford House), 9031 Elk Grove, Blvd. Elk Grove, Ca. 95826.
