Dr. Hazel Mahone will be presented with the Robert T. Matsui Community Service Award during the annual MLK Celebration on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Dr. Mahone, a veteran educator, has taught at all levels of education, kindergarten – through the university. She has 2 masters degrees in education and psychology and a doctorate in educational leadership.

Dr. Mahone has worked as a principal, an assistant superintendent and served for six years as a superintendent. This position earned her the distinction of becoming the first female superintendent in Sacramento county.  During her career, Dr. Mahone has inspired thousands of students to succeed and achieve their goals.  The MLK Committee is excited to honor Dr. Mahone’s service to our community.

The MLK Celebration Sacramento event is held annually to honor and remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Dr. King, and all those who fought for equality, stood for helping to make our country a better place for everyone.  Each year the MLK Committee also selects an individual who has made significant contributions to help better the lives of others and recognizes them with the Robert T.
