The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) is reminding people to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day celebrations safely by designating a sober driver. To encourage safe driving, police have several enforcement activities planned for the upcoming week.
Working with the County Probation Department, Sacramento police will conduct a county-wide sweep of individuals who continue to drink and drive with outstanding DUI warrants for their arrest. The Police Department will also be partnering with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to target alcohol use by minors and the individuals who provide minors with alcoholic beverages.
On St. Patrick’s weekend, Sacramento police will conduct a DUI checkpoint, as well as a high visibility “AVOID the Capital 16” DUI roving saturation patrol with 16 local agencies. The California AVOID campaign is a grant-funded, statewide program that publicizes the combined DUI enforcement efforts of participating law enforcement agencies within each county. The goal is to raise awareness of the increased problems associated with drinking and driving in our region.
