The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council Gala, this Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Berkeley Double Tree Hotel, 6 PM – 11 PM.

Keynote Speaker, Congresswoman Karen Bass, California’s 37th first African American Woman (2008-2010), Speaker of California State Assembly.

Come and honor Malia Cohen, President, San Francisco Board of Supervisors as she receives the Karen Bass Visionary Leader Award for her historical role in San Francisco becoming the first city to ban the sale of menthol (Newport) cigarettes and all flavored-tobacco products citywide.

For the past 10 years, the AATCLC has made incredible strides battling the social injustice of the pernicious tobacco industry targeting of African Americans, communities of color, youth and persons of lower socio-economic status. We have worked tirelessly across this country advocating to restrict the sale of mentholated tobacco products.

Who could have dreamed 10 years ago, that the FDA would announce their intention to ban menthol cigarettes AND that municipalities as diverse as Chicago, St. Paul-Minneapolis, Duluth, Richmond, Oakland, San Francisco, Berkeley, and Beverly Hills would have successfully enacted policies that restrict the sale of menthol (Newport cigarettes) and all-flavored tobacco products. We are proud to say that the AATCLC played a critical role in these historical successes in tobacco control, with more cities and counties underway everyday! But our work is far from done. Through collaboration, tailored assistance and mutual support, we are working to build a common agenda to prioritize the issues, objectives and actions that will help us to make a quantum leap forward in our goal to achieve healthy prosperous communities for all.

Please come CELEBRATE with us as we unveil our 5 Year National Health Equity Lens Initiative detailing our bold goals going forward!
