Did you know that several dozen Black leaders and other community members have met 3 times for “The Gathering” in Sacramento? A Summit Meeting for our Black Leadership has been presented by the Sacramento Chapter of BAPAC-Black Political Association of California and the Sacramento Observer Newspaper in June, August, and in October at the WCIC Building located at 3555 3rd Avenue in Oak Park – Sacramento.  There has been representation in from several Black association groups in Sacramento in attendance however we need for EVERY Black association, Black led/focused nonprofit group, and/or Black-owned business owner to join these gathering meetings.

WHY? Well as stated by Rory Kaufmann: “Critical issues, candidates, and challenges are upon us, and we must be prepared and be ready to address them in a united fashion to protect our culture, history, economics, education, and families; to be counted as Californians and VOTE as Black Americans – be able to exercise our ‘RIGHTS’ to participate in the Democratic process as FREE people”. Rory Kaufmann is the President of BAPAC Sac Chapter who has also worked as a long time consultant closely with the California State Assembly and the California Legislative Black Caucus.

The purpose of the meetings are to prepare and inform our community of two major events that will affect and determine our future, survival, and growth in California and the Sacramento region: the 2020 Census and the 2020 Elections. There are literally hundreds of Census 2020 jobs now available – apply now at:

I’ve attended 2 of 3 meetings so far and I always leave these meetings with a better understanding of what I need to be doing on a personal level to educate my family members as well as pass on information to my colleagues. I have also had the opportunity to hear from guest presenters who speak on the dire urgency of the need for African Americans to mobilize, take action to participate in our local to U.S. elections as well as run for office or at least support and endorse those Black individuals running for office.  It is important for us to support those who are currently in office as well as voice our concerns of where we need more assistance and better solutions regarding the many issues we face (e.g. – homeless and housing crisis, etc.). Don’t forget that our VOTE matters and the people who represent us matter and what they do while in position matters! Some of the speakers have included the following:
  • Mr. Willie Pelote – Principal at Pelote Strategic Consulting & Advocacy
  • Lauren Hammond, Senior Policy Strategist at California Policy Solutions
  • Taisha Brown, Chair, California Democratic Pary African American Caucus
I would encourage you to attend the next Gathering–A Summit Meeting of Our Black Leaders. It is VIP for leaders of the Black community to be in unity and NOT DISCONNECTED! We must learn to work together so that we know how to help one another.  Although each organization has its own missions, goals and objectives, THAT’S OKAY, but we should be at least sharing how we can address issues and contribute our ideas towards solutions that benefit us all. I am fully aware of how some groups move at a different pace than others but we still must find a middle passage where we meet up for the positive changes and improvements that we all want for our rightful place in society.

The next tentative meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3rd from 11:30 am to 2 pm at WCIC. Watch for the Sac Hub e-blast to confirm the date and time as we will also post on the Sac Hub Facebook fan page.
