The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s Youth Services Unit (YSU) will host a community gang awareness symposium this Thursday, August 2, from 6-8pm at Jose Rizal Community Center, 7320 Florin Mall Drive, in Sacramento, according to an official Sheriff’s Department press release.

The symposium is designed to educate and inform the public about the unit’s efforts towards empowering the youth in our communities. Issues discussed and presented will include an overview of gangs in the area, consequences of youth and gang violence, and resources available through the Sheriff’s Activities League (SAL) and Southgate Parks and Recreation.
