According to an article on CaliforniaWatch.org, a hearing was held in Oakland on January 20 by the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color in California to discuss the issues caused by trauma on African-American and Latino boys caused by violence in their communities. For instance, a recent report has found that in the United States, African-American boys are 2.5 times as likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PDF), while Latinos are more than four times as likely. Similar hearings are scheduled for Los Angeles on March 2, Fresno on April 13, and Sacramento on August 3.
