The Beauty of Black Women Initiative
It’s time to have a conversation we’ve been needing for far too long. The California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute invites you to stand with us as we launch The Beauty of Black Women Initiative — a transformative campaign that confronts the harmful beauty standards placed on Black women and girls.
For generations, we’ve been told how to look, how to act, how to exist in spaces that were never designed for us. These so-called “standards” don’t just shape our appearance—they shape our mental health, our physical well-being, and even our economic opportunities. We spend our time, our energy, and our hard-earned resources trying to fit into molds that were never made for us. And the toll? It’s immeasurable.
This isn’t about vanity — it’s about survival. The harmful expectations placed on Black Women and Girls are a form of violence that chips away at our confidence, our health, and our futures. But together, we can change the narrative.
Through our Protect Black Women and Girls initiative, CABWCEI is taking a bold stand. We are using the power of social justice to challenge these beauty standards and to celebrate the fullness of who we are—unapologetically, beautifully and powerfully Black.
