OFFICIAL STATE COVID-19 GUIDANCE: Outdoor Seated Live Events and Performances, Effective April 1

OFFICIAL STATE COVID-19 GUIDANCE: Outdoor Seated Live Events and Performances, Effective April 1

California has released several updates to the Blueprint for a Safer Economy reopening framework with a focus on activities that can be conducted outdoors with consistent masking, two factors that are scientifically shown to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread. Activities are allowed based on local conditions, and each county is assigned to a COVID-19 risk-level tier.

The state's updated industry guidance allows outdoor seated live events and performances, including ballparks, stadiums and event venues, to open beginning April 1 with significantly reduced capacity, fixed seating, mandatory masking and other public health precautions.

Beginning April 1, 2021, follow this guidance for outdoor live events, entertainment, and performances with seated audiences. Review the guidance and prepare a plan to support a safe, clean environment for workers, performers, volunteers, and patrons.

The guidance includes additional considerations for:

* Entry and security

* Production departments

This guidance does not apply to convention-style events, general admission venues, and events where the central activity allows patrons to move around shared space.

Performances that take place in non-performance venues (like restaurants, bars, or places of worship) must also follow that type of venue’s industry guidance.
