In Sacramento County, approximately 209,000 children and adults have been diagnosed with asthma. African Americans are four times more likely than whites to visit the Emergency Room for asthma prblems, and four times more likely to be hospitalized for those problems.

Common asthma symptoms are:

1. Coughing, especially at night.
2. Wheezing, a whistling or squeaky sound when you breathe
3. Shortness of breath (feeling like you can’t get enough air)
4. Chest tightness, pain or pressure
5. Faster breathing or noisy breathing

When these symptoms get worse, you are having an asthma attack. You can die from a severe asthma attack.
