Celebration Arts Presents “The Bluest Eye”

Black Family Day

The Bluest Eye – Presented by Celebration Arts. By Toni Morrison, adapted by Lydia Diamond. 8 PM, Thursday, Friday Saturday, 2 PM Sunday, through June 14th, Celebration Arts, 4469 D Street, Sacramento CA 95819. Corner of 45th and D Streets in East Sacramento.

The Bluest Eye is the story of a year in the life of eleven year old Pecola Breedlove, who wants nothing more than to be loved. Unaware of the power of beauty, she blames her dark skin and prays for shimmering blue eyes which will make it possible for her to be loved. The play touches on the crippling toll that centuries of racism and standards of beauty take on a community, a family and an innocent girl.
