2012 Young Women’s Summit & Scholarship

Today’s young women are tomorrow’s leaders and business owners. We look to celebrate their present and future with the 2012 Young Women’s Summit, part of the 2012 Exceptional Women of Color Networking Brunch & Wellness Conference.

Young women of color, ages 12-21, are invited to participate in this one-day Summit featuring discussions and workshops on what topics are important to them right now, and what they need to know to realize their full potential in the future.

The 2012 Y-EWOC Young Exceptional Women of Color Scholarship Competition

The 2012 Y-EWOC Young Exceptional Women of Color Scholarship Competition was started in May 2012 to help assist young women of color, ages 14-21, afford higher education. The goal of this scholarship is to encourage young women of color – African-American, Hispanic and Latino American, Asian/Pacific Islander American, or Indian/Native American – to pursue their dreams through education.

Eligibility
The 2012 EWOC Advisory Committee will award two $500 scholarships to two young women of color between the ages of 14-21 who:

  • Are in good academic standing at an institution of learning;
  • Plan to pursue some type of higher education, be it at a university, college or vocational school;
  • Demonstrate work in the community;
  • And can answer the question, “What Makes an Exceptional Woman of Color?”

Submission
Submissions must include the following in PDF form:

  • Completed Young EWOC Scholarship Form
  • Copy of your last transcript or report card in 2012
  • One letter of reference – can either be a character reference by someone you know, or a teacher/menor reference (reference cannot be from someone related to you)
  • Resume (e.g. – list of your achievements, hobbies, awards received, any job or volunteer experience)

Submissions must also include either an essay not to exceed 1,000 words or video not to exceed 3 minutes in length answering the question, “What Makes an Exceptional Woman of Color?”

  • Essays should be be saved in a PDF format and emailed with the requested information about.
  • Videos should be uploaded to YouTube and a link emailed with the requested information above.

Scholarships will be awarded at the 2012 Exceptional Women of Color Networking Brunch on Saturday, September 29 at UC Davis Freeborn Hall, Davis, CA.

If selected to receive a Young EWOC Scholarship, Sac Cultural Hub will request your photo and reserves the right to use your picture and information on the Internet and in print format.
