Blue Nile Press, the Black Group, in conjunction with Community Sponsors, present the 4th Annual Sacramento Black Book Fair (SBBF). This event is free and open to the public in Historic Oak Park. 2017 Theme: “Black Books Matter: The Truth of Our Many Selves”. The 4th Annual Sacramento Black Book Fair is dedicated to Carol Borden, a founder of the Book Fair, originator of “Books On Parade,” and an indispensable Sacramento leader. The Book Fair will feature numerous authors with meet and greets & book signings, books for purchase, Q&A discussions, lectures, activities for children, a parade, lots of vendors. Kickoff Activities on Saturday, June 3, 2017
Begin the day with Books on Parade, a family friendly short walk around the neighborhood. The parade will assemble at 9:30 am at WCIC featuring the legendary Grant High School Drumline Band. Community members are encouraged to bring books by Black authors for our Book Drive and deposit them at the WCIC registration desk. The walk will begin 10:00 am, and end sharply at 10:30am at the Kids Zone, located at the Brickhouse Art Gallery. Children must be accompanied by an adult. SPECIAL NOTE: Headquarters for the Book Fair is the Women’s Civic Improvement Center at 3555 3rd Avenue in Sacramento. Authors, volunteers, vendors and the public should go there first to pick up the free book fair program describing weekend book fair activities as well as amenities available in Historic Oak Park to enjoy during the fair.
Vendors, concurrent authors’ chat rooms, writers’ circles, occurring at all the venues. Consult the book fair program for times and locations for these activities.
The Kids Zone hosted by Brickhouse Art Gallery on Saturday, June 3rd
From 11:00 AM until 5:30 PM, children’s activities such as storytelling, African drumming, music, art, and children’s games are featured events for the Kids Zone. This year, the Sacramento Public Library’s Book Mobile will take part again, exposing youngsters to the art of reading and exploring books. AND, new this year, the children will have the chance to explore reading and writing on computers. Young children must be accompanied by an adult. Fun for the entire family!!!
