The Tea Party: What African Americans Are Saying…or Not?

It may be coincidental that with the election of America’s first African American President comes a mainstream political movement known as “The Tea Party.”  This movement has been associated with being “screamers, Birthers, racists and spitters.  Their candidates for office and supporters have advocated and hinted around reversing civil rights laws and violence as a means for change.
According to a New York Times poll, the 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be well-off, somewhat educated white male Republicans-older than 45 years who are very angry or dissatisfied with our political leadership.  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/15/us/politics/15poll.html

African American leaders and community voices have been suspiciously quiet when it comes to redressing the innuendos and actions of the Tea Party. Why?

We want to hear what you think about the Tea Party movement. What are they really trying to say, and why aren’t more African Americans and people of conscious concerned.
