To continue to collaborate with other organizations and churches in Sacramento area recruiting women to participate in a Preventive Heart Disease Intervention for Improved Cardiovascular Outcomes in High-Risk Women Study, training them to present heart health, culturally sensitive curricula to other members in the community. The Program requires two surveys to assess knowledge about heart disease and its risk factors, blood pressure and weight screenings, and two fasting blood tests at the beginning and end of eight to ten educational sessions.

For the past 5 years the primary mission of the National Trends and Services Facet has been to improve heart healthy lifestyles and to reduce risk of heart disease especially among African-American women.

Our attention to heart health, health disparities and other high-risk diseases evolved from our 2006-2008 successful study, Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program in partnership with U. C. Davis.  In 2008 we implemented a “PhD” (Preventing High-Risk Diseases) Program, to reduce heart disease and other high risk diseases in African American women through education and lifestyle modification.
