Sacramento, CA – The Sac Cultural Hub Media Foundation (SCHMF) is thrilled to present Jenifer Lewis—Award Winning Actress and Author at the 11th Annual Exceptional Women of Color (EWOC) Expo & Awards. The theme of this year’s conference is “Women Helping Women: A Heritage of Healing & Hope” and it will take place at the beautiful Mondavi Center at UC Davis. Red carpet arrivals and Expo opening start at 4 pm with a full evening of activities through 9:30 pm.

“We are so excited Jenifer Lewis – one of Hollywood’s most familiar faces and who is stellar in her portrayal of Ruby Johnson on ABC’s hit show Blackish is going to be with us. I’ve talked to so many women of color that want to hear Lewis’ stories about her journey in success, mental health, stress, healing, and hope”, says Sac Cultural Hub Media Company & Foundation CEO Pleshette Robertson. This is a conversation opener for women in our area and will continue as all attendees will receive an autographed book of Jenifer’s new memoir, “The Mother of Black Hollywood,” to take home to learn more and share with their friends.”

Lewis will bring song and comedy to the stage along with sitting down for a conversation with LeShelle May, Senior Technical Lead for CNN. “I’ve learned in life that what you give to others is what provides the most value to your life. There I was, a mess myself, yet I still had something to offer that would have an effect on another person’s world,” states Lewis in her Memoir.

LeShelle May exemplifies how women build new paths and share their talent lifting others up. May is a highly accomplished computer engineer recognized for her leadership and innovation in the development of software and web applications. UC Davis Chancellor Gary May stated: “I’m honored that our university is hosting the Exceptional Women of Color Expo and Awards at our Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.  UC Davis is committed to diversity and inclusion, and launches more women into the STEM fields than any university in the nation. “I’m thrilled to see my wife, LeShelle, driving the discussion which is bound to leave everyone feeling empowered and emboldened for the future.”

The EWOC program is SCHMF’s signature event, where we recognize deserving women throughout Northern California with EWOC Excellence Awards for accomplishments in their communities and professions. We are also honored this year to present Assembly member Dr. Shirley Weber with the EWOC Champion Award for her history making work that creates paths for women to follow in political leadership.

Additional event highlights include show opener – Hundreds Unit, Black Child Legacy Campaign through The Center at Sierra Health Foundation (Keynote Sponsor) introducing regional work to reduce African American child deaths, exhibitor shopping, and a simultaneous Youth/Young Women’s Summit with scholarship awards.
