SACRAMENTO – California Democrats released the final tally of delegates to the National Convention in Philadelphia, July 25-28. With all the votes in the June 7 presidential primary now recorded, the 475 pledged delegates reflect the will of more than 5 million voters and their excitement for the Democratic candidates.
California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. will attend the convention in Philadelphia, serving as honorary delegation chair.
“California is showing what the Democratic Party can do when it’s unified and bold,” said Governor Brown. “We can combat climate change, fix our broken immigration system and face up to the growing nuclear danger. And later this month, we will bring this message to Philadelphia.”
The California’s delegation will include some of the state’s top elected leaders:
· Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr, Honorary Delegation Chair
· Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom
· Attorney General Kamala D. Harris
· Secretary of State Alex Padilla
· Treasurer John Chiang
· State Contoller Betty T. Yee
· Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones
· Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León
· Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon
California’s delegation will be the largest and most diverse in Philadelphia, with 475 delegates pledged to a candidate and 76 unpledged delegates for a total of 551 delegates. The delegation is evenly split between men and women, and delegates range in age from 17 years old to 85 years old. The majority of delegates – 317 – were elected on May 1 in local caucuses to represent their communities, stretching from the Oregon border to Mexico.
