In response to the devastating impacts of COVID-19 on the Sacramento restaurant community and the Farm-to-Fork movement, a GoFundMe was established and launched by Mayor Steinberg and Region Restaurants to help support the survival of our independent restaurants, bars, breweries, cafes, coffee houses, wine tasting rooms and pubs. These businesses are the lifeblood of our community and provide employment to over 75,000 individuals in our City.

The goal of this grant program is to quickly infuse much needed funds into our local economy by supporting restaurants and bars within the City of Sacramento’s limits. We are aware that when individuals are on the verge of an inability to meet debt service or fund operating costs, a small infusion of capital can make a difference in stabilizing their business. Our hope is that these grants will enable businesses to continue operations through an adapted business model and continue generating income and thus retain their employees.

Funds will be distributed to qualifying applicants through this simple request form. The transparent distribution of these funds will be overseen by an advisory group that understand many of the needs facing the types of businesses outlined above. Supporting organizations include:

• Region Restaurants, a trade association of Region Business
• City of Sacramento, Mayor Steinberg’s Office
• Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
• Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council
• Visit Sacramento
• Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce
• Downtown Sacramento Partnership
• Midtown Association

To apply, you must be a licensed and independent restaurant, bar, brewery, cafe, coffee house, wine tasting room or pub with a brick and mortar storefront that offers on site food and/or alcohol service within the City of Sacramento boundaries. Grants will be provided as long as funds are available, up to $1,500 per grant. The grant amount will be based off of the number of current employees. Grants will be distributed as equitably as possible, based on geography (within City of Sacramento limits) and business type. Due to demand, we unfortunately cannot fund all requests.

The application will launch on Thursday, March 26, 2020 and will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March, 30, 2020. Initial awards will be announced the week of April 6, 2020. Funds continue to be raised at https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-our-local-restaurants and as additional resources become available subsequent awards will be made to those who have already applied but were not funded in the initial round.
