Wonderful Sharon Davidson was raised in Vallejo, California. She learned to volunteer and it became the foundation of her life. Ms. Davidson served as a candy striper and acted in convalescent homes and churches. She is a motivational speaker who seeks to move her listeners, to bring people together and to educate. Ms. Davidson’s passion for the future is to continue serving the community where she lives. Her primary concern is the youth of the community, who face many challenges.
Her book, “Pearls of Wisdom for Young Ladies” is a mini manual. Readers will find guidance and advice for developing a prayer life. In it is how to have gratitude for each day, and inspirational poems and songs. There are also scriptures that will help young ladies with their daily walk. This book emphasizes how important it is to care for one’s health and personal hygiene. “Pearls of Wisdom for Young Ladies” helps them learn about friendship, manners, and etiquette; preparing them for success in life and education.
THE HUB: What inspired you to write your book?
DAVIDSON: We don’t have too many seasoned mothers in today’s society. It takes a village to raise a child. With the village eradicated, it has a dramatic negative effect on Black culture. Our girls need to learn to have self-respect but how can they if they don’t have a positive role model to emulate? They copy what they see and hear on social media, which has replaced the parent. This book is a valuable resource for parents since daughters, Christian girls, have the same temptations as other girls. I learned to be modest and ladylike from seasoned mothers. Even though our parents dealt with slavery and Jim Crow they still had dignity. Many young girls come from single parent homes where lots of mothers can’t meet their needs; some need to be refined. Not every child has access to organizations like Jack and Jill or debutante balls where refinement is a top priority. So, my book deals with proper etiquette and manners. The list of golden nuggets covers scriptures to build self-esteem and confidence. Also covered is how to succeed in school, prepare for college and how to dine in public. How to be a good guest in someone’s home, telephone etiquette and church etiquette. How to be a good citizen. There are also illustrations on how to stand and sit, etc.
THE HUB: How long did it take you to write the book?
DAVIDSON: A year and a half. I had other projects to work on. It took three people to help me with the book, the thought process, organizing and editing.
THE HUB: Do you visit schools or Boys and Girls club?
DAVIDSON: Since the book came out during the pandemic, I couldn’t go out. But I made presentations on Zoom. Now I venture out to schools, clubs, churches and community organizations. I also have a part for young boys as well. I can incorporate them and teach both boys and girls.
THE HUB: Is there a second book in the future?
DAVIDSON: In 2023, I’ll release the second book, “Pearls of Wisdom 2: Arming Christian Girls with Tools for Life.” It is totally different; this book is about dealing with predators; recognizing the enemy so he won’t conquer you. The devil is hunting our girls, using invisible entrapment because of his disguise. Content is raw but very necessary, it is from experience and talking to people. Some moms don’t have real spiritual and mental wisdom to dispense, like moms used to, this is why we have a lack of seasoned moms.
THE HUB: Is there anything we have not covered that you would you like to add?
DAVIDSON: My goal in life is to save at least one life. I won’t know but if it reaches a young person that has mental and learning challenges like me, it’ll all be worth it.
