Thirteen years after she won her first Wimbledon championship, Serena Williams made history Saturday by walking away with her 21st Grand Slam title. Williams took Garbine Muguruza in straight sets, 6-4 6-4, but the winning wasn’t easy — on or off the court.

Throughout the tournament, many social media users claimed she isn’t the right kind of hero. Distasteful commentary about her physique and “attitude” littered Twitter during and after every round. Despite knocking down four straight majors for the second time, Williams was called a “gorilla” that “grunts like one.”
