Actor Ron Glass, best known for his work on the mid-1970s comedy Barney Miller, has died at 71.

Glass’ representative confirmed to Variety and TheWrap.com but did not provide details as to when or how he passed away.

An Indiana native and University of Evansville graduate, Glass earned a supporting-actor Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Detective Ron Harris, an ambitious intellectual who yearned to be an author.
