A new poll says Donald Trump still leads the Republican presidential field nationally, but he now has a close second-place challenger: Ben Carson.

Trump is at 27% and Carson is at 23% in the CBS News/New York Times poll released Tuesday.

Trump has led polls for more than two months, while Carson’s rise is more recent; he pulled only 6% in this same poll in early August but has rallied in the weeks since the first Republican debate on Aug. 6.
