Attention educators, counselors, community organizations, and students:
Community NETwork is pleased to inform you that we will award scholarships to African American high school seniors who plan on attending an accredited junior college, trade school, or university. The purpose of the scholarships is to give African American high school students residing in Sacramento, Solano or San Joaquin counties recognition for their academic and civic achievement during the student’s high school years. This is a one-year non-renewable award; minimum amount awarded is $1,000.
The scholarships awarded are in honor of three individuals who left a legacy in the telecommunication industry both globally and locally. The recognized African Americans are Lewis Howard Latimer, a Black inventor and draftsman, Marvin Barnes, former President of the Sacramento Chapter of Community NETwork and Gloria Rose, former chairperson of the Scholarship Committee for the Sacramento Chapter of Community NETwork. Community NETwork, is a non-profit organization with a membership comprised of active and retired employees within the AT&T family of companies, which exists to accomplish the following objectives:
To encourage and facilitate personal, professional growth and success of minority employees of AT&T.
To assist public and community organizations in the minority community.
To assist with the success of minorities in becoming leaders at their place of employment as well as in their communities.
