It’s a beautiful Saturday (5/1/10), but it’s no ordinary Saturday morning for Miss Bianca Brown the winner of the “DreamGirl’s Prom Makeover” contest.  In photo (Sharie Lewis- owner and stylist of DreamGirls Fine Hair Imports and Salon in Elk Grove, California, Bianca Brown-senior at Davis High School, and Tai Young-Jackson, celebrity makeup artist ).  See all photos posted in the Sac Hub Photo Gallery at http://www.sacculturalhub.com/photo-gallery/category/106

What started off as an essay contest about a “Bad Hair Day” for soon to be prom goers, quickly evolved into a day of “inspiration and camaraderie.”

For the past few years Dream Girls Fine Hair Imports & Beauty Salon, has been coming up with ways to help women and girls in the community.  According to Sharie Lewis,  owner of the Dream Girls Fine Hair Imports Salon in Old Elk Grove,  “I’ve always  enjoyed helping women who are going back to work or girls preparing for prom but  this year,  our event coordinator Seak Smith suggested that we hold a contest for all girls”.

The contest was held for a three week period, the winner would be entitled to a hair make over and make up by celebrity makeup artist Ms. Tai Jackson. Out of the overwhelming response of eager contestants, Bianca Brown was chosen as the deserving winner.

Bianca Brown is a senior at Davis Senior High school, the eldest of three daughters and the admirable support to her mother Danielle Jamieson.   Bianca’s mother has endured five brain surgeries and a temporary bout with blindness.   While most senior girls are fretting over their hair and nails for the upcoming prom, Bianca’s worries surround the health of her mother.  Bianca  has diligently focused on caring for her mother and her efforts  prompted UC Davis employee and family friend, Ms. Lori Fuller to submit the letter on Bianca’s behalf.

Keadrian: what made you choose Bianca’s letter?

Sharie: “It was very touching and we felt that Bianca deserved this because of how she helped her mother and we also felt her mother deserved this too”.

Danielle watched her daughter brighten up as she got all dolled up, “I was very surprised when Bianca won because It’s not often when we win things.  Lori Fuller was my academic advisor at UCDavis and we became really good friends.   Bianca can be laid back but very serious at times since my recent condition, she loves me so much and it’s hard for her to see me like this, it’s hard for me, but she has been a great help and has been with me through the hard times, cooking, cleaning and caring for her two younger sisters, and I can say that all three of my daughters have been very helpful.  Bianca’s high school staff and parents have also been very supportive of my family. My major at UCDavis was Community development and I can’t’ believe I’m seeing “Community Development” in action, it feels really good to know people care…”

While the day was full with glitz and glamour, the camaraderie and passion to help their fellow “Lady” is what “Dream Girls” do to make a girl’s dream come true!

The Dream Girl Prom Makeover was a team effort and the team consisted of: Sharie Lewis, Tai Young-Jackson, Seak Smith, Natosia Ellzey, Latasha Johnson, Breonna Thomas, Natasha Davis.  DreamGirls Fine Hair Imports and Salon is located at 9090 Elk Grove Blvd in Elk Grove, California (916/686-5030).
