Sacramento State’s Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) and Pan African Studies will host the 20th annual Diaspora Conference April 28-30 in the University Union, Redwood Room.
The conference is a signature event in the western United States that examines critical issues of strategic importance to Africa and the African Diaspora. The 2011 keynote speaker is Dr. George Ayittey of the Free Africa Foundation, Washington, D.C. He will be followed by Lt. Col. J. Ogilvie, Jamaica Defence Force, who will speak on Haiti. The conference is free to the campus community and open to the public.
The Center will present its annual Peace Award to the Hon. Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood (in photo) of Ghana, who will also serve as the keynote speaker at the post conference awards dinner, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, with a reception, followed by dinner and a dance.
This award is the Center’s highest recognition of individuals whose work has contributed to peace building and justice in/on Africa or the Diaspora in exceptional ways. This award underscores Theodora’s exemplary public and national leadership in promoting and integrating Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in the reform of Ghana’s judicial system and improving access to justice.
