On this day in 1979, the world witnessed the rebirth of a young superstar.

Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall came out 35 years ago today. The album established him as a solo artist to be reckoned with after his childhood success with The Jackson 5.

It all came about after Jackson worked with super producer Quincy Jones on the film version of The Wiz in 1978. Jones oversaw the recording of Off the Wall, which featured songwriting contributions from Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.
