Grammy Award winning artist and HIV advocate Alicia Keys has teamed up with Greater Than AIDS to launch EMPOWERED — a new public information campaign to reach women in the US about HIV/AIDS.

Reportedly an approximate 280,000 people living with HIV in the US — or about one in four — are women. Women of color have been especially hard-hit, accounting for the large majority of new infections occuring among women in the US.

With the launch of EMPOWERED, Keyes is highlighting the power of women — as mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, partners and people living with HIV — to change the course of this disease through every day actions. The movement seeks to educate women on the facts about HIV/AIDS, get them to speak openly about HIV/AIDS with family and friends, protect themselves and their loved ones, ask to be tested, and live full and healthy lives and help prevent the spread of the disease.
