I will make this short and sweet. It’s the weekend, after all. We’ve got things to do and people to see.
I was able to catch the peerless Iyanla Vanzant yesterday in Stockton at the Bob Hope Theatre. The event was literally life changing.
The bad news is, if you weren’t there in Stockton last night, you missed her. The lady hopped from the stage and onto a bus for the next stop of her 30 city tour.
The good news? That next city is Oakland, and she’ll be there tonight!
At the risk of sounding like Stefon from Saturday Night Live…
An Evening With Iyanla Vanzant: Acts Of Faith Remix Tour has EVERYTHING: Church service. Therapy session. Sorority meeting. Faith workshop. Love fest. It was ALL of that. But I’m going to describe the night with a single word:
Phenomenon.
I hesitated with “sorority session,” because there’s a lot in Vanzant’s two hour plus presentation for the men, too. First and foremost, the 65 year old motivational speaker appears a good 20 years younger. And she was wearing those red pants during the show’s second half. But she had the ladies in the palm of her loving hand from the moment she took the stage until she left it.
Vanzant is everything you see on TV and so very much more. She’s womanly. Wise. Wonderful.
Tickets are still available for tonight in Oakland. If you decide not to go, you’ll have missed your blessing. But don’t blame me, beloved. I’m just calling a thing a thing!
