The Oakland Zoo recently announced three new meerkat pups have joined their group of meerkats, making them the first successful litter of meerkat pups in over a year.

The new babies — Ayo (“Joy”), Rufaro (“Happiness”) and Nandi (“Sweet”) are about six weeks old. According to the Zoo, the first six weeks is crucial as meerkat pups are very fragile and infanticide is not uncommon.

The new additions bring the Oakland Zoo’s meerkat “mob” to eight, and all of them are on exhibit at the Oakland Zoo and can be viewed during normal business hours.
