On August 28, 1963, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream Speech” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March, Assemblymember Shirley N. Weber and members of the California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) will host two events on August 28 in Sacramento.

The events will focus on how “The Great March on Washington” served as a catalyst for the passage of landmark reforms such as the voting and civil rights acts. The events will also explore topics relating to equal opportunity, as well as further explore the circumstances surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death and examine George Zimmerman’s murder trial and not-guilty verdict.

The first event is an informational briefing to be held Wednesday, August 28 from 10am-12pm at the California State Capitol, Room 126.

Then the March on Sacramento rally will take place that same day from 12-1pm at the California State Capitol West Steps.
