In news that will likely surprise not one This Is Us fan, Sterling K. Brown swears that the show’s upcoming season finale is a tearjerker. At this point, viewers know to have their tissues at the ready when the NBC drama airs—but this episode is apparently a real doozy. As the actor told Jimmy Fallon on Thursday’s Tonight Show, “I feel like if you don’t [cry], you probably don’t have a soul.”

The Season 2 finale, which will air next week, centers on Kate and Toby’s marriage, Brown said—specifically, whether it actually happens. It’ll also somewhat paradoxically star an old-man version of the deceased Pearson family patriarch, Jack. As Fallon noted, this has been quite an awards season for Brown, who took home a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, and an Emmy for his turn as Randall. Brown is only the second person to win all three of those leading-actor awards in the same year; the first was Dennis Franz. “He did it for NYPD Blue,” Brown noted, before gushing, “Detective Sipowicz was my joint! So the fact that I get a chance to stand in company with that dude? I was blown away.”

Another win for Brown this year? Black Panther, in which he turned in a terrific performance as N’Jobu. But, as the actor noted, “It almost didn’t happen.”
