The sleek event was attended by prestigous political, entertainment and media figures tincluding: Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Jasmine Guy, Sacramento Mayor and former NBA point guard Kevin Johnson, Tallahassee Mayor John Marks, Mayor Michael Coleman of Columbus OH, NCBM President Robert Bowser (Mayor of East Orange, NJ), NCBM Exec Director Vanessa R. Williams, Stacii Jae Johnson (Director of Special Events, Office of Mayor Kasim Reed), Atlanta City Council President Caesar Mitchell, and City Councilman Kwanza Hall.
The National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) represents more than 650 African American Mayors across the United States; collectively its membership represents over 48 million citizens. Founded in 1974 with the mission to enhance the executive management capacity of its member mayors, NCBM articulates public policy positions and serves as a clearinghouse on information pertinent to municipal development and financing. NCBM provides technical and management assistance through cutting-edge research, best practices and partnerships that enable its mayors to challenge and overcome grappling issues that erode the vitality and sustainability of our nation’s cities.
The convetion will be held until June 2nd at the Atlanta’s Marriott Buckhead Hotel with Congressman John Conyers, Congressman John Lewis and Rev. Joseph Lowery.
