I procrastinated for awhile about writing this review, in part because I didn’t know whether I wanted to buck up against the multitude of folks online who slammed Wonder Woman 1984 when it debuted simultaneously in theaters that no one should be going to right now and HBO Max. Everyone with two thumbs and a fraction of a thought wanted to chime in about what was wrong with the movie.

To be quite frank, I don’t know what movie the naysayers are referencing or watched. Wonder Woman 1984 is better than the original, the best superhero movie that’s been released since Black Panther, and may be the best since 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Like most film’s, Wonder Woman 1984 has its flaws, with its most prominent being its run time. At two and a half hours, there may have been 30 minutes or so that could have been trimmed.

But then, with the year we’ve survived, an extended stay in 1980s-era Washington DC, long before the arrival of the former president Donald J. Trump (God, it felt good to write that) was a great, healing trip for this writer.
