The California Hawaii State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) strongly support Congresswoman Barbara Lee as the Chair of the Democratic Caucus. Congresswoman Lee is truly unbought and unbossed, like her mentor, the late Honorable Shirley Chisolm.

“We have worked with Congresswoman Lee over the years as a state legislator, a community activist, and in her current capacity as a member of Congress,” President Huffman stated, “Congresswoman Lee keeps her feet planted strongly in her district serving her constituents and is active at the grassroots level of the California Democratic Party, advocating for peace, justice, and civil rights. She is one of the most highly regarded and respected elected officials in California.”

For her service and outstanding achievements as an elected official, the California NAACP inducted Congresswoman Lee into its Legacy Hall of Fame. Congresswoman Lee is now a member of a unique group of awardees including, The Honorable Willie L. Brown, Jr., Mayor Kevin Johnson, and former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. “We admire Congresswoman Lee because of her courage and commitment. She is not afraid to take a stand on principle, even if she stands alone,” said President Huffman. “We believe that the Members of the Democratic Caucus should stand with her in her bid to become the first African American woman elected to leadership. African American women are the most devoted demographic of the Democratic Party and they deserve a seat at the table.”

In times like these, we need leadership who can build trust, bring the all voices to the table, and help increase voter turnout to support the Democratic agenda that benefits all of us. Barbara Lee is a team player, a hard worker, a unifier and a proven leader for all Americans.

We urge Members of Congress to vote for Representative Lee as your Democratic Caucus Chair.
