The Sacramento Police Department, in partnership with Councilmember Steve Hansen and the City of Sacramento, has launched a free online bicycle registry called Ride On!

Ride On! is the product of a collaborative effort to help deter bicycle theft. The bicycle registry will allow anyone to go to and easily register his or her bicycle. The information will be entered into the police department’s internal database, which officers will be able to use to determine the owner of a recovered bicycle.

The bicycle registry is part of a larger bicycle theft prevention public education campaign to “Register. Lock. Report.” It is a three-step process designed to reduce bicycle theft. Councilmember Hansen is reportedly working with the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) on the public education component of the campaign to be rolled out in the coming months.
