“To Be Young Gifted and Black”…The Sacramento Area Black Caucus (SABC) honored five high school and college students during its annual “Scholarship and Recognition Dinner” on Saturday, May 8 at Touch A’ Class Restaurant, 4217 Stockton Blvd. in Sacramento. Each of the students will receive a $500 scholarship.   In photo is Rahotep Alkebulan, 2010 recipient of the Rosenwald “Robbie Robertson Scholarship” and Donna Lynem, Vice Chair, SABC.
This year’s, five outstanding students (scholars) include:

  • Chrystanya Morgan is the recipient 2010 of the Cheryl Ann Fisher Scholarship. Ms. Morgan is currently a California State University-Sacramento BSN student. She is a board member of California Student Nurses Association, and a participant in the Sacramento Black Nurses Association.
  • Jessica Reede is the 2010 recipient of the Rowenwald “Robbie” Robertson Scholarship. Jessica is a student at Monterey Trail High School. She plans to attend Howard University School of Education and major in Elementary Special Education.
  • Rahotep Alkebulan is the 2010 recipient of the Rowenwald “Robbie” Robertson Scholarship. He is a freshman at Howard University majoring in Biology and Allied Sciences. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School class of 2009.
  • Patrice Brazier is a sophomore at California State University Sacramento, majoring in Nursing. Patrice is a returning Rowenwald “Robbie” Robertson Scholarship recipient.
  • Marissa Thomas is a freshman at San Diego State University. She is majoring in Civil Engineering. Marissa is a returning Rowenwald “Robbie” Robertson Scholarship recipient.

The scholarships are awarded in memory of Rowenwald Robertson, a community activist and City Council member, and Cheryl Ann Fisher, a founding member of the Sacramento Black Nurses Association and Black United Fund of Sacramento Valley.
