The wake will be from 4 to 7 pm, Dec. 22, at Thompson’s Funeral Home located 3601 5th Avenue in Oak Park – Sacramento.
The funeral will be at 11 am, Dec. 23, at St. Paul’s Missionary Church located at 3996 14th Avenue in Oak Park – Sacramento.

I, Pleshette Robertson, am so SADDENED by this unneccessary and horrible shooting that took place at the barbershop. The gang violence NEEDS TO COME TO AN ABRUPT HALT in our community! We have way too many untimely and horrific murders amongst our African American teenagers. The elders and parents of the community must take a stand in the community. We must take action and start/continue participating as speakers and mentors in the elementary and high schools as well as group homes and juvenile facilities. We have to strategically find a way to REACH and PENETRATE the minds of these adolescents who are creating and wreaking undue havoc in our community. Too many African American children and teenagers are being murdered by other African American children teenagers at the hands of heavy artillery/automatic weapons and guns.
- WHERE IN THE HECK ARE THESE ADOLESCENTS GETTING THESE SEMI-AUTOMATIC MACHINE GUNS AND WEAPONS?
- WHO IS MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THESE GUNS/WEAPONS TO ENTER OUR COMMUNITY AND INTO THE HANDS OF OUR CHILDREN?
- WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY AFRICAN AMERICAN TEENAGERS DROPPING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL WHO ARE LED OR RECRUITED INTO PROSTITUTION AND/OR TO JOIN GANGS?
So many of our teenagers have been misguided, neglected and our not prepared for the future as far as job readiness, enter college and seek higher education or vocational certifcation programs. We must find a way to redirect the gang members and deter them from killing each other as well as killing innocent people. It’s a COMPLEX matter of so many issues in the commmunity that must be addressed in every aspect.
UNITY PRESS CONFERENCE AT 9:30 AM ON Tues-12/21/10. The Sacramento NAACP will be joined by family members of the victims, Mayor Kevin Johnson, Assembly member Roger Dickerson, Supervisor Joe Serna, Jr., Council members Bonnie Pannell and Sandy Sheedy as well as a host of various religious and community organizations including a diverse group of community leaders to hold a press conference on December 21st at 9:30 a.m. in front of Fly Cuts and Styles located at 6955 Stockton Blvd, the sight of the senseless murders of Monique Nelson, 30 and Marvion Barksdale, 20 and injuries of several others in our community. “We have suffered a great loss and tragedy in our community this week that resulted in two lives being lost; which unfortunately happen too often and we appear to be silent on these issues.
