Youth between the ages of 13 and 19 can make a difference in the community by participating in the Youth Voices 2010 Multi-Media Contest. The contest will provide an opportunity for local youth to research a health-related issue and translate what they’ve learned into a message for their peers or their parents about the importance of healthy choices. Youth can enter the contest by designing media messages that address one of the following issues: 1. encouraging young drivers to be safe behind the wheel, 2. reducing youth access to alcohol and other drugs. Entries can be posters, radio commercials, or television commercials. Submissions are invited through April 30. Winning entries will be displayed and aired at local venues and media outlets. The winning entry in each category will be awarded $125 gift certificates and $100 gift certificates will be awarded to the second place entry in each category. Additionally, the first five entries received in each category will receive one $20 mall gift certificate. Both individual and group entries are welcome. The contest is coordinated through the Humboldt County Youth Driving Safety Program and the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Program.
