Ballet dancer Misty Copeland — who helped break ground as an African American female soloist for the American Ballet Theater — has recently landed a two-book deal, according to an article on TheGrio.com.

The deals include a memoir with Simon & Schuster’s Touchstone imprint, where Copeland will reportedly discuss the battles she fought and overcame through her ballet experience, as well as a picture book for G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers, part of Penguin Group (USA).

According to an article on TheGrio in February 2012, Copeland is the first African-American soloist at the American Ballet Theater in 20 years.
