A new initiative called Project Plie has been launched by the American Ballet Theatre and ballerina Misty Copeland to help find more African-American ballerinas, according to an article on HuffingtonPost.com.

According to the article, the goal of Project Plie is to “increase racial and ethnic representation in ballet and diversity America’s ballet companies.” The program will reportedly offer scholarships, internships and other opportunities for children of color.

The project was reportedly inspired by Copeland, who is the first black soloist to dance with the American Ballet Theatre in 20 years.
