Some schools in south Sacramento were put on lockdown as law enforcement officers searched for an armed suspect, thought to be a juvenile, who ran from Sacramento County Probation Officers Thursday morning.

According to Lynsey Semon, supervising probation officer of the Sacramento County Probation Department, officers in the area saw a young man fall off a bike around 11:30 a.m. When officers were walking over to help him, a dog started “charging” towards him. That was when officers say the young man pulled out what they believed to be a semi-automatic handgun.

Semon says the officers yelled at the young man before he ran. The officers followed as the young man jumped the fence to the Valley High School campus.
