National Night Out will be held tonight, Tuesday, August 6, 2013, with a number of different events throughout Sacramento and the Bay Area.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and law enforcement-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized against crime.

Although the traditional turning on of porch lights remains a part, activities have expanded to block parties, ice cream socials, parades and community meetings.
