Inaugural Documentary Film Festival Announced for Sacramento Region at Rancho Cordova, CA

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA: The California Capital Film Office, the official film office for the City of Rancho Cordova, will present, under its nonprofit arm, The California Capital Arts Foundation – a 501(C) 3, The First Annual California Capital Documentary Film Festival on June 10th, 11th, 12th. The Film Festival will be presented at three screening locations, City of Rancho Cordova City Council Chambers – 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670, Cal Cap Black Theatre – 9845 Horn Road, Sacramento, CA 95827 and The George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science  –  10101 Systems Parkway, Sacramento, CA 95827.  

The California Capital Documentary Film Festival will be the first Documentary Film Festival in the Sacramento region and is being planned as a yearly event. The festival will feature over 60 documentary films both shorts and long-form, panel discussions with filmmakers, and Q&As with many of the subjects of the documentary films screened. We have secured three screening venues that have the capability of showing films with full surround sound in a movie theatre setting. 

We are fortunate to have secured the sponsorship of The City of Rancho Cordova, SMUD, Comstock’s Magazine, Visit Rancho Cordova, and Cordova Community Council

The full festival lineup of documentary films is still being selected but already confirmed are: 

  • A Perfect Vintage – is a documentary about winemaking and wineries in the California Napa Valley region. 
  • Built Beautiful – is a documentary that looks at how neuroscience is helping to determine how and why beauty plays an important role in our well-being. 
  • David Mirish: The Man Behind the Golden Stars – a film about arguably the most famous publicist in Hollywood and his clients. 
  • Hannibal Hopkins and Sir Anthony – A film about the legendary Anthony Hopkins. 
  • Mister Candid Camera – A film about Alan Funt the creator of Candid Camera, (Alan will attend the screening and give a talk after). 
  • The Accidental President – The new political documentary about Donald Trump directed by British filmmaker/journalist James Fletcher. 
  • The Dirt Whisperer – Looking at food from farm to fork. 
  • Neutra – Survival Through Design is a feature documentary into the life and work of Austrian/ American Architect Richard Neutra. 

All of the filmmakers and some of the subjects of the films above are slated to attend the film festival and will give lectures and Q&As. 

The full lineup of films to be screened will be available on the doc fest website www.calcapdocfest.org by April 1st, 2022.

Also featured will be two documentaries that look at the Sacramento region: 

  • Sacramento and the Transcontinental Railroad – and the festival will tease the trailer of the new documentary 
  • History of Rancho Cordova is set to release later this year to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Rancho Cordova. Both films are produced and directed by local filmmaker, Bill George. 

An opening reception/gala will be held on Thursday, June 9th at JJ Pfister Distillery – 9819 Business Park Drive, Suite 3, Sacramento, CA 95827 and will be open and free to residents of Rancho Cordova. The gala will feature buffet-style food and meet and greet with filmmakers and celebrities. Reservations are required on www.calcapdocfest.org/reception
