Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) released this statement in response to Governor Jerry Brown’s final State of the State Address.

“California is America’s greatest success story. Governor Brown and the Legislature deserve credit for balancing the budget, raising wages, expanding healthcare and setting the conditions for economic recovery. Today unemployment and the number of uninsured Californians are at their lowest levels in 40 years.”

“Governor Brown is right: ‘The bolder path is still our way forward.’

“We must take the fight against super-pollutants like methane, HFCs and black carbon into our homes, stores, fields and forests. I will introduce the California Cooling Act to support business and consumers to switch to Earth-friendly refrigerants.

“We must continue to expand public funding for healthcare until every Californian has affordable, high-quality care.

“We must defend student dreamers, immigrants and working people who are building California’s economy.

“Our greatest obstacle to cleaner air and healthier communities is ignorance in Washington, D.C.

“Our dreams must be bigger and bolder than ever.”
