Grey’s Anatomy/Scandal/How to Get Away With Murder

ABC, 8 ET/PT

The Shondaland trio returns tonight after a long break with Derek off to D.C. on Grey’s, Olivia kidnapped on Scandal, and Annalise pretending to search for her husband on Murder. It will be interesting to see how Murder plays now that it’s operating on just one timeline (assuming it is). Either way, it will be interesting to watch Viola Davis — because she’s Viola Davis, and there’s no better reason to watch Murder than that.

Parenthood

NBC, 10 ET/PT

The family gathers for Sarah’s wedding as this NBC series concludes. However one felt about Parenthood, it’s a shame to see broadcast’s only current family drama vanish, with no replacement in sight.

Elementary

CBS, 10 ET/PT

Kitty’s problems come to a head in an episode that will most likely please the show’s fans for various reasons, including the insight it provides into Sherlock’s own problems. It’s a strong outing for Lucy Liu (who also looks incredibly gorgeous in it), and perhaps the best episode yet for Ophelia Lovibond as Kitty. Still, what may stick with you is a frequently moving performance from Jonny Lee Miller that is bracingly idiosyncratic but never in a way that draws you away from the character. This is as riveting and well-thought-out a star turn as you’ll find on TV, and it doesn’t get half the attention it deserves.
