Fresh off their critically acclaimed collaboration on “Selma,” director Ava DuVernay is re-teaming with her star, David Oyelowo, on a movie about the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

The costliest disaster in U.S. history and disproportionally devastating African-American neighborhoods in New Orleans and beyond, Hurricane Katrina provides similar social relevance for DuVernay to mine. The filmmaker, who missed out on the chance to be the first woman of color to win a directing Oscar, will also write the script of the upcoming drama.

“Hurricane Katrina is one of the most important social and environmental stories of our time,” Participant Media’s Jonathan King, one of the producers on the film, said in a statement.
