This winter, the Crocker Art Museum will celebrate the season with classic holiday music and a series of programs inspired by the exhibition American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell.

Music lovers will be in for a treat as local singer-songwriter Ricky Berger performs holiday classics and her own original music on Thursday, December 20 at 7 p.m. The Crocker will also kick off a new annual sing-along movie tradition with the film screening The Sound of Music on Thursday, December 27 at 6:30 p.m. Artist-in-residence Deborah Pittman will present an original multi-media performance piece inspired by Rockwell’s iconic painting “The Problem We All Live With” at the Crocker’s Family Kwanzaa Concert on Friday, December 28 at 2 p.m.

On Monday, December 31, the Crocker will present a Holiday Monday: Noon Year’s Eve Family Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At this fun and free celebration, all ages will learn about New Year festivities from around the world through live music and dance performances by Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association, Non Stop Bhangra, Agua de Beber Capoeira, and the City of Sacramento Pipe Band. To top off the event, the hand bell choir Bel Tempo Ringers will perform “Auld Lang Syne.” Admission to the Museum will be free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on this day and is sponsored by Target.

Drop, Yak, Splat!, the Museum’s monthly gallery experience for families, will take on a holiday theme on Thursday, December 27. The program will be available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and is free with museum admission. Children ages six to 10 are invited to take a fascinating journey into the life and art of Norman Rockwell at two different sessions of Crocker Art Camp. Children will be immersed in a world of creative fun as they discover and make a wide range of art, including illustrations, self-portraits, paintings, photography, and more. Session one of Crocker Art Camp runs from December 26 – 28 and session two runs from January 2 – 4.

Visitors ages five and older can sketch at their own pace while receiving drawing instruction. This drop-in program meets on the fourth Sunday in a different gallery each month. No experience necessary. All supplies provided. Free with Museum admission.

Holiday Edition Wee Wednesday

Children ages three to five and their grownups are invited to this gallery-based art experience. The adventure begins in Tot Land with groups leaving at 10:30 and 11 AM. Free with Museum admission.

Crocker Art Camp

The Crocker Art Camp is an ideal setting for kids to develop their imaginations and creative thinking skills. Inspired by the life and art of Norman Rockwell, the winter break sessions will immerse children ages six through 10 in a world of creative fun. Each camper will discover and create a wide range of art, including illustrations, self-portraits, paintings, photography, and more. Each session will feature different activities. At this fun and free celebration all ages will learn about New Year festivities from around the world through live music and dance performances featuring the Golden Turtle Lion Dance Association, Non Stop Bhangra, Agua de Beber Capoeira, and the City of Sacramento Pipe Band. The celebration will also present New Years’ traditions from local cultural groups and hands-on creative activities. To top off the event, the hand bell choir Bel Tempo Ringers will perform “Auld Lang Syne.” This program is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Museum will be open and free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Holiday Monday. Holiday Mondays are sponsored by Target.
