“Artober” – Sacramento’s month-long celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month is moving into prime time. Events from all over the region will invite the public to experience the arts everywhere, everyday. Enjoy lots of free activities, a handful of film festivals, homegorwn talent, national and international stars, and openings of new theatre spaces and public art displays.

Five key elements of Artober will launch this month, and you’re invited to help with any or all!

ARTIST HOT SPOTS – If you are an artist, or a collector, or a friend/fan of an artist, this is for you. Organize a trunk show, house concert, or other informal/impromptu event that showcases an artist work and locate your “Artist Hot Spot” in Artober. Go on to the Artober facebook page and create a Hot Spot event for all Artober fans to see. Let us know how it goes.

ARTOBER INDULGE – If you are a restaurant, salon, or small business, this is your chance to be creative AND to give back to favorite arts organizations. Artober Indulge invites any business in the region to create a signature offering to customers in honor of Artober. Feature a signature Artober dessert, or drink, or manicure, or tune-up and give 50% of the proceeds to a nonprofit arts organization that you have selected. Artober Indulge businesses will be featured in the Sacramento News and Review Artober supplement, and will be able to post an Artober decal to demonstrate participation. ARTS.OPEN HOUSE – Calling all performing arts groups. We want you to share your stories with an eager family public on October 9th at the Community Center Theatre. Sign up to staff a table at Arts.Open House – a gift to the community that features backstage tours of the theatre, a set of professional, community and student performances, and this lively trade show. Arts groups get a chance to develop new audiences and enjoy the company of colleagues. For more information contact Chris McSwain chris@oldsacramento.com or Judy Goldbar at JGoldbar@cityofsacramento.org.

FREE NIGHT OF THEATRE – From September 9 through September 23, theatre lovers and those of you who have not yet attended a play in a theatre can enter to win tickets and attend one or more October theatre productions from Sacramento’s premiere performing groups. Free Night of Theatre, a national event, will feature more than 18 local theatre groups who are inviting new audiences to see their plays. When you click on www.freenightsacramento.org you can select up to 5 shows. At the close of the sign up period you’ll find out whether you have won tickets to see a play for free.

FOR ARTS SAKE COALITION MEETING – All of you who have been watching and helping For Arts’ Sake implement our ambitious creative action plan are invited to join the Mayor, special guest artist Synthia St. James, and the For Arts’ Sake Coalition leadership team on Wednesday, October 26th 4:30-6:00 pm at the Guild Theatre. This will be a time to celebrate our accomplishments to date and get inspired to continue our collaborative work to make Sacramento a region known for its support of arts and artists.

Lots of energy around Artober. Stay up on the latest through www.artobersac.org, sacramento365.com , and our Artober Facebook page.
