Musician and composer Herbie Hancock is one of five individuals selected to be honored by the John F. Kennedy Center this year.
The Honors recipients are recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts and are selected by the Executive Committee of the Center’s Board of Trustees.
The other 2013 Kennedy Center Honors recipients are opera singer Martina Arroyo, songwriter Billy Joel, actress Shirley MacLaine and musician and songwriter Carlos Santana.
The 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors will be broadcast on CBS on December 29 at 9pm PT.
