Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and its BEA Employee Resource Group (formerly Black Employees Association) recently awarded $60,000 in scholarships to 26 college-bound and continuing college students from Northern and Central California, according to an official company press release.

Each student received a scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 in recognition of their demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, and academic achievement.

The 2012 PG&E BEA Employee Resource Group’s Scholarship recipients are:

  • Amanda Alvarado, Frontier High School in Bakersfield, attending California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo
  • Arifeen Rahman, Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, attending Harvard University
  • Christopher Paschal, continuing college student attending Santa Clara University
  • James Reede, Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove, attending Jackson State University
  • Keturah Platt, Castlemont Business and Technology School in Oakland, attending San Diego State University

This is the 31st consecutive year that BEA has awarded scholarships to deserving students. The 2012 recipients were chosen from nearly 100 applications submitted by college-bound high school seniors or continuing college students who live withing PG&E’s service area.
